Miss Bates - 23 May 2025

Well done year 4 for completing the last week of the first summer term!

In English, we have finished writing our final draft of our informal letter. We have worked together to edit our first draft ensuring that we have used our key skills: paragraphs and informal language.

In science, we have learnt how environments can change and this can sometimes pose changes to living things. Children were given different scenarios such as oil spillage, draught and polar ice caps melting. Using this they were asked to identify the changes and how this can affect the animals within this habitat.

In DT, we have started our new topic ‘tomb builders’. In the first lesson we have looked at simple machines and how to are used and can sometimes be used together to create compound machines. The children created some lovely drawings in their book with an explanation of their chosen machine.

In shared reading, we have carried on reading secrets of a sun king. We have used our prediction, summary and retrieval skills.

In Maths, we have now finished out topic ‘time’. We have learnt years/months/weeks/days, hours/minutes/seconds, how to convert between analogue and digital times and converting to and from the 24 hour clock.

We found the time topic quite tricky and it would be very helpful if children could practice reading the time at home on both analogue and digital clocks.

Well done for working so hard this week year 4! Please remember to read and play TTRS for 5 minutes a time, 5 times a week.

The children are also being sent home with a homework pack that has times tables, grammar and a 60-second comprehension task for every day. Please ensure this is completed over the half term.

Just a reminder the MCT (multiplication tables check) is going to be happening when they come back from the half term. Please make sure your child is practicing their times tables and going on TTRS to ensure they pass.

Please find attached the spellings below.
