Weeks 1 and 2 Spring 1

13 Jan 2023

Welcome back Year 4!

The children have had a great week and a half back at school after the Christmas holidays.
We have started our new topic Misty Mountain, Winding River.

In English, we have been preparing to write a setting description. This will be based on a scene within a valley, with mountains either side and a river flowing through the middle. To ensure we write a detailed setting description, the children have been learning about figurative language, and recapping on how to structure our writing into paragraphs.

During our Reading lessons, we started our new novel: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. The children have taken to the book very well so far, making excellent inferences about the characters and their relationships with one another, as well as making predictions about who may travel further into Narnia.

In Geography, we have begun looking at rivers. This has included looking at key vocabularly such as estuary, tributaries and springs. We have also been investigating the journey of a river, looking at the different sections and how they differ from one another.

Have a lovely weekend.
