Thank you so much for taking my call and so grateful this will be circulated with other professionals  and to families who attend the school.

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the new local area coordinator for Rainham, Rainham Village and Wennington. This is an exciting new role supporting professionals and community residents.

The purpose of a Local area coordinator is to try and bridge a gap between people and statutory services by helping people be aware of what resources are within their local vicinity that they can access. We aim to help people overcome personal challenges, make new friends and connections, get involved in groups and activities, get their voice heard and share skills within their community.

Our service offers a range of services to help the local community, below are a few examples of our working goals.

·         ‘Take time to get to know local people, families, and the local community, develop effective, trusting relationships and partnerships that are sustainable.’

·         ‘Understand the need to ask the right questions – ‘what is a good life?’ instead of ‘what services do people need?’

·         ‘Support individuals and families to identify their strengths, goals, and needs’.

·         ‘Support people to plan for their future promoting resilience, independence, self-sufficiency and not dependency’.

·         ‘Help people to identify and develop practical ways to overcome issues that may prevent them from achieving personal goals.

·         ‘Think “local and natural” first – “How does anyone else pursue their aspirations, solve ‘problems or get their needs met?’

·         ‘Help to build capacity in individuals and families with the key aims of self-determination, rather than just providing a service to help ‘fix’ a problem.’

·         ‘Promote self-advocacy and helping people find their voice’.

·         ‘Challenge negative attitudes that deny equal access to the same opportunities and services as other people in the community’.

Assist community groups and organisations to intentionally and strategically include people with disabilities, mental health issues, older people and families as identify as valued contributors.

Please find attached our poster advertising our services. I would be very grateful if I could drop off a poster or leaflets and maybe have a chat about the service, as I understand you are a vital key part off giving support to the local community of Rainham and value working in partnership with you.

Look forward to hearing from you.
