Miss Booth - 15 Nov 2024

English
This week we wrote our Kennings poems on the topic of fireworks. Children used two word phrases consisting of two nouns and challenged themselves to use onomatopeia and alliteration. Next week we will be recapping on grammar, punctution and comprehension.

Maths
We have now completed our addition and subtraction unit. We finished this by learning how to estimate, using fact families and inverse operations and making mathematical decisions for word problems. Next week we will assess the learning for this topic before moving onto mutiplication and division.

Science
Another fun investigation in science again this week. Children were various items including foil, transparent prisms, a sponge and coloured plastic. In the dark, they shone a torch on each item in order to make a prediction of which item would let the most light through. I then used a lux meter to test this and the class were excited to see their predicitons were correct!

Geography
Our geography learning introduced the children to directions using a compass. We played a fun game practising to point north, east, south, west, north east, south east, south west, and north west. The children then completed an activity using a map of a funfair and wrote how to get from one place to another using the relevant direction.

Art
In art we enjoyed colour mixing! In groups the children were given a painting that shows how artists use cool or warm tones and bring out lighter and darker shades. The class then recreated these paintings using a main colour and mixing this with black or white to create a variety of tones.

Please ensure your child is accessing TT rockstars as this will support their learning on the multiplication and division unit. It is important that when children read their levelled book 5x a week at home, you write each read in their reding record as only then will this count towards their reads. Please take the time where you can to go through the pack that has been sent home today as it will include some materials that can support your child during assessment week which will commence WB 25/11/24.
