W/C 4/11

Miss Booth - 08 Nov 2024

Welcome back!

 Maths

We are nearing the end of our addition and subtraction unit and this week we learned how to add and subtract 2 and 3 digit numbers with exchanges e.g. 327 + 25 or 504 - 38. The children were able to access this well as they have now had plenty of practice with the column method. Next week we will finish this unit and our next unit will be multiplication and division.

English

This week we introduced Kennings Poems to the class. We discussed how Kennings are similar to riddles and looked at the features of this type of poetry, which includes two word phrases using a verb and a noun or a noun and a noun, joined by a hyphen. Next week we will be writing our own kennings poems about fireworks!

Science

In Science the children had an amazing time learning about light. We brought out different materials such as glass, coloured plastic, mirrors and cardboard and we shone a torch on/through these to discover the effect of light. Children were astonished to see the outcomes and are excited to learn more about light this half term.

Geography

We kicked off our Geography unit by looking at maps! In small groups, the class had the opportunity to explore a map of East London and Essex. After recapping physical and human features, we used four figure grid references to find and record places on the map. We were excited to find our school, Dartford crossing and west ham stadium!

Art
Art allowed us to further explore colour theory and begin colour mixing. After looking at various pieces of art, children displayed their knowledge of colour by representing primary colours, secondary colours, warm and cool colours through painting.
