Year 3 Week 5

Literacy
In Literacy Year 3 have been learning how to use paragraphs in their writing. They have also been planning their stories based on Theseus and the Minotaur in preparation for their ‘hot write’ next week. The children considered how they could improve their writing and helped their peers to do this too. Next week we will be beginning to write a diary entry.

Maths
In Maths the children have been learning how to use chunking to divide. This has been a difficult concept but with lots of practice they are finally getting there! Extra practice has been sent home for your child this week. Next week we will be continuing to develop their confidence using a number line to divide.

Topic and Science
This week the children learned about sun safety. We considered all the positive and negative effects of the sun and designed a poster to sell a product that could protect our eyes from the sun. During this week’s topic lesson, the children learned about Greek gods and goddesses. They then used papier-mache to create their own god or goddess which they will paint next week when they are dry.

Children born between 01/09/2021 - 31/08/2022 are due to start Reception in September 2026.
Applications close on 15th January, 2026. Offer day is in the evening of 16th April, 2026.

If your child has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), please note there's a different process for school transfers. You'll need to contact the Special Educational Needs Team directly at sen@havering.gov.uk to discuss changing your child's school.

School will finish for the Christmas Holidays on Friday 19th December (children will leave school at 1:15pm) and will return to school on Monday 5th January 2026.
