Year 3 Week 2
08 Nov 2019
Literacy
This week Year 3 have been writing a character description. They have been gathering interesting vocabulary that describes the beastly Minotaur’s personality and appearance. They also began to learn about using ‘a’ or ‘an’ correctly in sentences. At first, they found this a little difficult but they have been working hard use these correctly in their writing. Next week we will be planning to write a narrative based on the story of Theseus and the Minotaur.
Maths
We have continued to work on developing confidence using the formal written method to solve addition and subtraction problems and have particularly focused on our reasoning skills. The children are doing really well and extra practice has been sent home in their homework books. It would be great if you could encourage your child to read the questions carefully and more than once before answering them.
Topic
In Science, we continued to learn about ‘light’. This week the children designed a book bag for school children that would help them to be seen in the dark. Before this, they tested everyday materials to find out which one was the most reflective. In topic, the children placed important ancient Greek dates onto a timeline and discussed these.
