Mrs Shah’s update 13/2/26

13 Feb 2026

We’ve had a busy and productive week in Year 2, and the children have shown fantastic focus across all of their lessons.

English

We have now finished our Big Write based on Stick Man, and the children worked incredibly hard to produce thoughtful and detailed pieces. This week, we have also been practising comprehension-style questions to help prepare us for our assessments next half term. The class is becoming much more confident at finding answers in the text and explaining their thinking.

Maths

In maths, we have been racing through our units. We have now completed our measurement work using centimetres, and the children enjoyed lots of practical activities to help them understand length. We have now moved on to mass, exploring grams and comparing the weight of different objects.

Science

Our new science topic is materials. This week, the children carried out an investigation around the school, exploring the properties of different materials and thinking about why certain materials are chosen for particular jobs. They loved being little scientists and making careful observations.

Topic (RE)

In our topic lessons, we have been learning about the Five Pillars of Islam. The children have shown great curiosity and respect while exploring the beliefs and practices that are important to Muslims.

We hope you have a fantastic half term break next week filled with exciting things and look forward to seeing everyone back refreshed and ready for spring term 2!
