Mrs Shah's update 16/1/26

16 Jan 2026

English

This week in English, the children have been working on descriptive writing. Their main big write focused on creating detailed character descriptions of the lion and the mouse. They thought carefully about appearance, personality, and behaviour, using a wide range of adjectives to bring each character to life. As our class text had no written words, the children also took on the challenge of writing the story themselves. They matched their sentences to the pictures, using their vocabulary knowledge to build a clear and engaging narrative. Their effort and imagination were wonderful to see.

Maths

In Maths, we have been learning about money. This is a topic many children find difficult, and our class found it challenging at first too. Through lots of practice, discussion, and problem‑solving, they made strong progress and have now completed the unit. Their confidence has grown, and they should feel proud of how well they persevered.

Science

Our Science lessons have focused on microorganisms and hygiene. The children learned about how germs spread and how we can keep ourselves clean. They particularly enjoyed an experiment using soap, water, and pepper to show how soap repels germs. Watching the pepper quickly move away helped them understand why regular handwashing is so important.

Design and Technology

In DT, we have been studying the work of Cath Kidston. The children explored her distinctive patterns and designs, which has inspired their own ideas as we continue with our project.
