Reception Spring 1 Week 4

This week in Reception, we have been learning all about Chinese New Year.
In maths, we have been learning about weight and capacity. It has been really fun estimating them amount of cups of water to fill each pot etc. The children also loved investigating heavier and lighter than on the scales.

In phonics, we have been making great progress. Our teachers have been assessing us to make sure we are learning at the right pace and level!

We have been dancing, exploring dragon and lion dancing. We have been using junk boxes to make dragons and dancing around with them. The children love creative activities and some of them have been making their own dragons too. Later in the week we will be making books about the story of Chinese new year. We loved making vegetable spring rolls to try at school 😊

SCHOOL ADMISSIONS - excluding Nursery

Children born between 01/09/2021 - 31/08/2022 are due to start Reception in September 2026.
Applications close on 15th January, 2026. Offer day is in the evening of 16th April, 2026.

If your child has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), please note there's a different process for school transfers. You'll need to contact the Special Educational Needs Team directly at sen@havering.gov.uk to discuss changing your child's school.

School will finish for the Christmas Holidays on Friday 19th December (children will leave school at 1:15pm) and will return to school on Monday 5th January 2026.
