Autumn 1 Week 4

30 Sep 2022

This week we have been taking part in healthy eating week in school, focusing on the importance of a balanced diet.

We have been learning about a different food group on each day and made a healthy snack – popcorn!

English Writing
This week we have been practising using expanded noun phrases to describe settings. This is when we add adjectives before a noun in a sentence and separate each adjective with a comma.

Maths
Building on our knowledge of number lines, this week we placed 10s and 1s on them, and estimated where numbers should go on number lines where the intervals were not labelled. We also compared objects.

Science
We conducted an experiment as a class to determine the stretchiness (elasticity) of different materials.

Harvest Festival
We will be gratefully receiving any donations for Harvest Festival at our classroom door. There is no expectation for donations, but please do give as generously as possible. Donations will be given to a local foodbank to support our local community.

Reading books
We will move children on to the next appropriate book bag book when we have determined that they are reading their current one fluently. The skills of decoding (breaking down into phonetic chunks) and comprehension are important, but we are aiming to develop fluent, confident readers. Moving children on too quickly does not benefit them in the long term.

Your child will still have the opportunity to change their library book each week even if their book band book is not changed for fluency reasons.
