Week 2

07 Nov 2019

Hello all! It was lovely to be able to meet with parents this week and share the progress that children are making so far in Year 2. I hope you are as proud of them as Miss Hopkins and I are so far.

This week in Year 2, we had a Road Safety show which taught children how to be careful when crossing the road. This fitted in with our PSHE lesson this week as we had been learning about all of the safe crossings available to us to ensure we cross the roads safely! Our model castles are also well on their way as we have been preparing the battlements for the walls and the turrets.

In Maths this week I have been extremely impressed with the children's progress in their Maths lessons. Over the past two weeks we have been working to understand the idea that multiplying is groups of amounts and dividing is sharing. The children have seriously impressed me with their ability to use the 2, 5 and 10 times tables. Keep up the practise at home to make sure it stays fresh in your minds!

In Literacy over the past 2 weeks, we have been looking at traditional tales, in particular the Three Billy Goats Gruff. We have enjoyed writing character descriptions for the brave goats and the horrible, wicked troll. The children are working really hard to understand how to use expanded noun phrases, co-ordinating conjunctions and adverbs in their writing. They now need to make sure they can show me that they know how to use them in their independent work too!

Have a lovely weekend

Miss West
