Mrs Shah's class update

13 Mar 2026

This week has been Assessment Week in Year 2, and the children have worked incredibly hard. They completed assessments in maths, reading, spelling and grammar, and we are very proud of the focus and resilience they showed throughout.

English

Alongside our assessments, we enjoyed a fun lesson on alliteration. The children loved spotting and creating alliterative phrases, especially when linking them to the books we have been reading for pleasure. Horrid Henry by Francesca Simon has been a particular favourite in our classroom, and the children were excited to use characters and ideas from the stories in their work.

Maths

In maths, we explored fractions and focused on understanding equal parts. The children have become confident at identifying halves in shapes and enjoyed using practical resources to show their thinking.

Topic

In our topic lessons, we continued learning about tunnels and human geography around the world. We discussed which materials would be best for building tunnels and linked this to our science learning on materials. The children enjoyed investigating different materials and thinking about their properties.

Mother’s Day

A highlight of the week has been our Mother’s Day activities. The children loved taking part in the Mother’s Day breakfast, creating thoughtful cards, and sharing what makes their mums so special. It has been a lovely way to end a busy week.
