Mrs Shah's class update

06 Feb 2026

We have had another very busy and exciting week in Year 2, with lots of wonderful learning taking place across all subjects.

English

In English, we have been exploring Stick Man. The children have been thinking deeply about the characters, discussing how they might feel and what they might be thinking at different points in the story. They have been practising their inference skills using clues from the book and even wrote their own postcards from Stick Man’s point of view. The progress they’ve made has been fantastic.

Maths

This week, the children finished their multiplication and division unit and have now moved on to measurement. They have been working hard — and having lots of fun — learning how to measure accurately using metres and centimetres.

Science

In science, we continued our mouldy bread investigation. The children were fascinated to see how much new mould had grown since last week and enjoyed comparing the different conditions in our experiment.

Topic

In our topic lessons, we have been learning about Muslims and Islam as the Islamic month of Ramadan approaches. The children have shown great curiosity and respect while exploring the beliefs and practices of the religion.

The chidlren have been working so hard and have made remarkable improvement in their phoics as they have been tested this week and we are impressed! Please keep up with the reading and spelling practise at home, as we approach the final week before half term!
