Miss Pillai - 05 Sep 2025

Well done year 4 for your first full week back!
You have all worked very hard on your first week back and adjusted to the routines.

In English, we have been practicing our Oracy skills and had lovely class discussions about how our language skills. We looked at how to make sure we are having meaningful discussions in class and how to be respectful within these discussions. We also had a debate about some topics to showcase what we have learnt this week. We have started our new English topic, character description. We are learning how to use possessive apostrophes and similes in this writing. We have practiced these skills in a narrative.

In shared reading, we have started reading our new book the firework makers daughter. The children predicted what they thought the book will be about looking at the front cover and the blurb. We then used our inference skills to answer questions about the chapter of the book we had read. The children were given key vocabulary from the book and had to find the definitions of these in a dictionary.

In science, we have started our new topic states of matter and we looked at solids, liquids and gases in out first lesson. We went through the different properties of these and how we could identify them. They then sorted out different solids, liquids and gases into the correct groups. We also had a fun experiment with bicarbonate of soda and vinegar. The children tied a glove on the top of this mixture and recorded the reaction. The glove was filled with gas from the reaction.

In maths this week, we have started our new topic place value. Our first 2 lessons have looked at representing and partitioning numbers up to 1,000. We have partitioned these into hundred, tens and ones columns.

In art, we have started our new topic Islamic art. We have created our geometric patterns.

  • P.E is a on a Friday.
  • The children in year 4 have been given their levelled books and reading records.

As always, please continue to read and play on TTRS for 5 minutes a day, 5 days a week.
