Autumn 1 Week 5

06 Oct 2022

English Writing
This week we started our new class text ‘George and the Dragon’. We have continued to develop using expanded noun phrases to describe settings and characters.

Maths
This week we have been focussing counting in tens, fives twos and threes.

Science
We conducted an experiment to determine the different properties of materials, which can bend, squash, twist and stretch. We also discussed why we need different types of materials and what objects they would be suitable for.

Reading books
We will move children on to the next appropriate book bag book when we have determined that they are reading their current one fluently. The skills of decoding (breaking down into phonetic chunks) and comprehension are important, but we are aiming to develop fluent, confident readers. Moving children on too quickly does not benefit them in the long term.

Your child will still have the opportunity to change their library book each week even if their book band book is not changed for fluency reasons.
