Week 5

06 Feb 2020

Maths
This week in Year 2 we have been learning about fractions. We have been learning that finding 1/2 of a number is the same as halving it. We have also been counting objects in 1/2s and counting in 1/2s on a number line.

Literacy
This week in Year 2 we have been learning about newspaper reports. The children have been identifying the headline, picture, caption and facts that are part of a newspaper. They have used this knowledge to begin writing their newspaper report about naughty Peter Rabbit who ate all of Mr McGregor's vegetables! So far we have used the 5 Ws to write our introductions, but we will complete these next week.

Topic
In Science this week we investigated how easily germs can be spread indirectly. We used glitter as an example of how germs can be transferred from one person to the next. We also learned how to properly wash our hands in order to kill any germs.

In Geography, we completed some fieldwork outside. We counted the different vehicles that use the roads around our school in a traffic survey. We have also created posters to suggest ways to improve our local environment.

I have sent home a letter outlining ways you can support your child at home in maths. Please give this a read and speak to me if you have any questions. 10 minutes a night will have a big impact on your child's learning!
We have also created bookmarks for your child that have questions on them. These are questions that you can ask your child when they read to you at home, that will improve their comprehension.

Have a lovely weekend :)
