Miss Pillai - 18 Oct 2024

Please note, as we are not in school on Friday, year 4 will have PE on MONDAY 21st OCTOBER.
Reminder: Pyjama day is on Thursday 24th October.

Well done year 4 for your last ‘full’ week at school during autumn 1!
We have had a very busy week and the children have worked extremely hard in all their lessons.

In shared reading this week, we have been looking at the poem ‘the Eagle’ and ‘The Crocodile’. We have looked at new word meanings like ‘azure’ and ‘crag’ and have drawn the image we see when reading the poem.

In English, we have looked at good example of a poem and highlighted some features. We have then developed our two key skills to use in our poems next week (metaphors and rhyming schemes).

In maths, we have looked at estimating answers and used the inverse as a way to check our answers. We have finished with our ‘addition and subtraction’ block of learning today and will be moving onto ‘area’ next week. The children have gone home with optional maths homework today to practice their column method when exchanging is involved.

In science, we developed our knowledge of the water cycle. We discussed the process of the water cycle, focusing on key terms ‘evaporation, condensation and precipitation’. We have completed a scientific diagram to represent this and have learnt the lyrics of ‘The Water Cycle’ song.

In history, we have looked at the causes and consequences of the Norman Invasion. We looked at key people during the event including William the Conqueror and Edward the Confessor.

Spelling test results and new spellings have gone home today, next week’s spelling test will take place on Thursday as we are not in school on Friday.
Please continue to read with children 5 times a week and write this in their reading record and ensure they can access TTRS 5 times and week, for 5 minutes a time.
