English
In English this week the children have been working hard to edit the diaries they wrote based on our class text; Stone Age boy. They have also been illustrating a new version of the story, named Bronze Age Boy/Girl. The children really enjoyed discussing how the story would be different if the main character travelled back to the Bronze Age instead. They will use their illustrations to write character descriptions based on their own creations next week. Below is an example of one of our diaries, written by Naylaa.

Dear diary,

Later in the day, the girl took me to her camp. I couldn’t believe the things I saw. Om showed me her family. There was two little girls standing near me and Om. I felt so flabbergasted. Then I saw a girl in a pink, fluffy soft jumper hanging old, stinky blue fish on the fish hanger.

After a while, we all went hunting together. I was helping them catch the juicy, fluffy, lovely raindeer. I was so upset because the reindeer died.

When we got back from hunting, there was a celebration. People were dancing around estaticly and contently. I was playing the guitar. I felt jubiliant! Everyone was dancing happily and quickly. The reindeer was just sitting there dead in the corner dejected and devastated but at least we had a celebration and killed our first animal. Yay!

Maths
In maths this week the children have been learning to add and subtract 1s, 10s and 100s from 3 digit numbers. They have been looking for the patterns of what happens when they do this. The children have worked hard at using counters to aid their reasoning skills this week, although crossing into another hundred when adding or subtracting is still a little tricky! Below is a website that can be extremely useful in improving arithmetic skills. Just select 'level 3' and there are lots of options to practise addition and subtraction.

Topic
The children really enjoyed their science lesson this week. We discussed endoskeletons in a range of animals, and how different skeletons are adapted for the different environments that those animals lived in. They then matched up photos of animals to their skeleton. History was also fun this week - the children drew pictures of tribal chiefs in the Bronze Age, using pictures of artefacts to help them. I must say we do have some very talented artists in 3W and they really enjoy getting creative!
