Week beginning 21st March

28 Mar 2022

This week in Year 2 the children have been working super hard. Not only have we had assessment week in which children gave it their all, but we have also covered a lot of different subjects as well.

In Maths we have been looking at Lines of symmetry, sorting 2D shapes, counting the faces, vertices and edges of 3D shapes, as well as using these shapes to make patterns.

In English we have been continuing our work on 'The Magic Finger', we have retold the story in order, looked in detail and the characters and settings and we have begun to plan an extension of the story using mind maps.

We have then written a draft of the beginning, middle and end of the story focussing on our expanded noun phrases, and using a range of different openers.

In Science we have been looking at how food is grown, harvested, transported and stored in supermarkets to be sold. We completed an experiment to observe how apples decay in different locations (the cupboard, the freezer and the refrigerator). We made predictions and recorded our observations.

In Geography and History, we have been looking at famous explorers that have made important discoveries including; Christopher Columbus and James Cook. We have then looked in detail about when these people lived and put them in chronological order.
