Autumn 1 Week 7

20 Oct 2022

English Writing
This week, we have been consolidating our learning over the past term and writing setting descriptions based on our class text George and the Dragon.

Maths
We have been revisiting our learning on number, place value, addition and subtraction.

Science.
For science, we completed an investigation based on the research of Charles Mc Adams. Children set up a fair test and investigated how to make the strongest road using chocolate and other materials. They then analysed their data and drew conclusions. They were eager to complete the task and eat the chocolate afterwards!

Notices
Please remember to return the permission slip for your child to attend the Colchester Castle trip. Payment is taken via SQUID please see the letter sent last week. Don’t forget to complete the packed lunch slip if you wish your child to have a school pack lunch.

Maths
Below is an excellent app for your child to practise maths skills for one minute every day. White Rose Maths is the scheme we currently use at school.
https://whiterosemaths.com/1-minute-maths
This will support your child's maths learning at home alongside their weekly numbots and timetable rockstars.

Spellings
Going forward, your child will be set spellings on Spelling Shed all login details can be found in the inside cover of their reading record.

Reading books
We will move children on to the next appropriate book bag book when we have determined that they are reading their current one fluently. The skills of decoding (breaking down into phonetic chunks) and comprehension are important, but we are aiming to develop fluent, confident readers. Moving children on too quickly does not benefit them in the long term.

Your child will still have the opportunity to change their library book each week even if their book band book is not changed for fluency reasons.
