Year 2 weekly update

20 May 2021

Maths and English

This week in Year 2 has been assessment week. When we have not been working on assessments, we have been continuing with our geometry unit of work in Maths. The children have been learning to use a ruler to draw 2D shapes accurately, and finding vertical lines of symmetry. In Year 2, we have been writing character descriptions about Peter Rabbit. We have also been continuing with our class text, The Queen's Nose. The children are really enjoying reading about Harmony and her magic wishes!

We have been practising adding 3 numbers together in maths also. Some children are still struggling to identify the number bonds to 10 first, or the doubles, so please practise this at home. The daily 10 game is brilliant for this. Quick 5 minute practises each day will make a world of difference to their learning. Follow the link below and select Level 2 -> addition -> three one digit numbers. Choose the time that is most suited for your child.

Foundation subjects

We have learned about polar habitats this week in Science. The children used a venn diagram to identify and classify animals that live in the Arctic, Antarctic, or both! Some were very surprised to learn that polars bears and penguins do not co-exist on the same side of the Earth! My personal highlight of the week has been seeing the children use the computing suite for the first time. They had so much fun! smiley
