Year 5 visit a Gurdwara

15 Jun 2018

This week, Year 5 travelled to Barking to visit the Singh Sabha Gurdwara. The children have been learning about Sikhism in R.E. and had many questions about the faith. We first had a talk about where Sikhism originated and were told stories about Guru Nanak. We also had a taste of the holy pudding that is eaten when somebody first enters the temple.

The children enjoyed their lunch provided by the Gurdwara. Some children were adventurous and tried the different types of food that were on offer.

We all had a great day and would like the thank the parents who worked hard to set up the day for us all. The children were absolutely brilliantly behaved and a credit to staff and parents. They were respectful both on public transport and inside the temple, and were brilliant ambassadors for our school. Well done, Year 5!

I would like to remind children that each week new spellings are stuck in their homework books. They are expected to write these words in sentences each week. The reason for this is that children are required to learn the meaning of the word, as well as the spelling, to enable them to expand their vocabulary.
Children are working extremely hard in their reading, and many have now reached the 200 reads stage. I would encourage children to keep up this high standard they have set for the rest of the term!
