Year 1OS Update 21.10.22

21 Oct 2022

English
This week Year 1 have been learning about question marks. They thought carefully about turning statements in to questions and ensuring they had punctuated it correctly with a question mark.  They have also been sequencing and retelling the story of Superworm, trying hard to include conjunctions, capital letters, full stops and finger spaces.

Maths
In Maths the children have been learning about addition. They have been using part-whole models to help them to create fact family number sentences. Something the children have found tricky is missing part-whole problems. See an example below that you could practise at home.

Superhero Day
The children had so much fun on Superhero Day and it was great to see them all dressed up as their favourite superheroes. The children started the day by creating their own superhero and writing about them. They completed superhero Maths, made superhero masks and baked some delicious Earth cookies!

Other
In Science, Year 1 have been completing an investigation since the beginning of the half term. As we have been focusing on the changes in each season, we set up a fair test to measure the rainfall each week. This week the children recorded their data on a bar chart. In Geography, we continued to look at positional language and created an obstacle course so that they could practise their navigational skills directing their friends.
