Reception Summer 1 Week 3

Mrs Divall - 03 May 2023

This week in maths we have been consolidating our knowledge of doubling.  We have done this in a variety of ways, using mirrors, paint and by trying some worksheets too!  We would like you to practise doubling with your children over the long weekend and are sending home a worksheet on doubling, rather than phonics homework this week.  You must continue to read your child’s reading book and practise the red words in there too 😊  Please remember to sign the reading record three times per week.

In maths we have also been learning about how we can manipulate shapes to make new shapes, e.g. you can line up squares to make rectangles, arrange triangles to make squares etc.  Here are two links with activities you could try at home at the end of the video.  We played these to the children so they understand this is learning they can do at home.

In topic, we have been learning about Cinderella and had a lovely circle time where we discussed what we would wish for, if we had one wish!  The children drew some beautiful pictures too, of their dreams.  We will be learning all about Princess Pearl and the Flying Doctors tomorrow, discussing the fact that princesses can be powerful and don’t always have to wear dresses!
We have enjoyed creating a piece of artwork to represent the artist Piet Mondrian to celebrate Brady’s birthday.  We are also looking forward to the coronation picnic, weather permitting.  Please remember to check your emails and phones because if it is raining, Mr Nunn will have no option but to cancel the event, but we really hope that doesn’t happen!
