Reception and The Gruffalo

Mrs Divall - 02 Oct 2019

This week we have been learning about the Gruffalo!
We have created some amazing pictures of the Gruffalo, paying special attention to his particular features.  The children tried hard at this activity and were proud of their results.

We have been singing a song about the Gruffalo… can they remember it to sing to you?!

In maths we have been learning to identify and describe the following shapes: circle, square, rectangle, triangle, and hexagon.  There are many children in the class who are not sure about the names of these shapes, so please practise this at home over the weekend.  There is a good song on YouTube Cocomelon 2D shapes or ‘The shape song and the shape song 2” which will help to support your child’s learning.  It is really important that they know these shapes and we are working hard in school to instil this knowledge.

In phonics, the class have learnt t, i and d this week, as well as m, a, and s last week.  Again, think about practising these sounds and forming these letters using the individual rhymes.  Any practise will help your child to develop their confidence in this area.

Later in the week we are looking forward to making stick puppets with Mrs Zaayman to retell the story and on Friday afternoon the class will have PE.  Please ensure your child has their FULLY LABELLED PE kit in school for Friday as it is part of their compulsory school uniform.  The staff would like to encourage parents to support their children in becoming more familiar in self-dressing.  It is an important skill for developing independence.  Therefore, if your child struggles to remove their jumper, work on that this week.  Once they master their jumper, next week work on polo top, or trousers… whatever would help your individual child.

From next week your child will be sent home a reading book.  Reading books must be read at least 3 times a week but hopefully more (they only take a few minutes).  Every single time you read with yoru child you must fill in their Reading Record so that they can begin to collect their stamps for rewards. The reading book should be kept in your child’s bag with the reading record every single day, however please note that every week:

Red House books will be changed on a Monday
Blue house books will be changed on a Tuesday
Green House books will be changed on a Wednesday
Yellow house books will be changed on a Thursday

Kind Regards,
Mrs Divall, Mrs Zaayman, Miss Hunt and Miss Paris
