Reception this week
Mrs Divall - 23 Feb 2017
Hi everyone,
Sorry I haven’t updated for a couple of weeks. We have been very busy and I need to fill you in on what we’ve been up to.
Before half term, Miss Marsh, a trainee teacher started with us. She’s around for another three weeks. Miss Marsh has been teaching the children some maths. They’ve been learning about describing 3D shapes, a little about telling the time and also will be moving on to measuring next week.
Mr Hetchin has also joined us officially now as my maternity cover. Mr Hetchin has been planning an exciting week based on ‘Handa’s Surprise’. It sounds a lot of fun and knowing the children, I am certain they are going to enjoy the opportunities.
In phonics, the children have split into 3 groups. One larger group stay on the carpet with the classteacher, a small group work with Miss Hunt and a small group work with Miss Hopkins.
In the larger group, the children have been learning Set 2 sounds and reading words including them,
Ay – play, say, day,
Ee – bee, see, seen, been
Igh – high, sigh, light
Ow – blow, snow, grow
Oo – poo, zoo, loo
Oo – book, look, shook
In Miss Hunts’ group, children have been practising reading and writing 3 letter words more independently. For example, they have been practising words such as:
Fun, box, web, bad, cup, win, fan, pin, lip, wet, jog, get, hit
In Miss Hopkins’ group, the children have been practising
M a s d t p i n g o c k u b f e l h
Ensure you practise the relevant content with your child in order for them to make the best possible progress this year.
Finally, a big well done to Ruby, who won a trophy from her Mixed Martial Arts club for listening carefully to Spencer! Well done Ruby!!
