Reception learning this week

Mrs Divall - 14 Jan 2016

Hi all,

This week we have been learning about coins and money.

We have been learning to recognise a 1p, 2p, 5p and 10p.  We've also looked at 20ps, 50ps, £1 and £2.  We were very impressed by the £2 coin!  We've been learning that 10 1ps is the same as a 10p and that 5 1ps is the same as a 5p.

In phonics we have been reading and writing simple words.  We have been playing games such as bingo, roll the dice and quiz quiz trade to practise our skills.

Our topic work this week has been about whales and polar bears.  We read a Greenpeace story about a girl who thought there was a whale in her pond.  We have learned that whales need to be looked after.

The children have been enjoying playing with the donated toys and equipment.  It is fantastic to see the children learning to compromise and empathise with each other as they explore new games and accept other children's idea.

In other conversations, we have been talking about the map and answering the children's very good questions.  They want to know "where is holiday?" (Alfie C) and "where is Lanzarote, I went there once but forgot the directions" (Max R).  Sam wanted to know "where do all the French people live?" and Maksim was able to tell Sam that they live in France, because he has been there!

Next week the children will be learning from the story Owl Babies in the afternoons.  From Tuesday, they will be taught by a supply teacher as I will be out of school for my operation.  Please be patient with the EYFS staff during this period and if you have any questions or concerns while I am off, speak to Miss Hopkins or Mrs Indiran.

Next week reading books will be changed on Thursday.

PE will be on Wednesday, weather permitting.  There are several children who still do not have a PE Kit in school.  It is essential that the PE Kit is in school for PE lessons.

Kind Regards,

Mrs Divall
