Where The Wild Things Are

Mrs Divall - 05 Feb 2015

Hello everyone!
We have been learning from the core text ‘Where the Wild things are.’
A personal hightlight for me this week was our PE lesson linked to the story.  The children interpreted music from the ‘where the wild things are sound track’ and we pretended to be Max in the boat.  We travelled in different ways across the bridges (benches), over the wild thing towers (PE tables) and moved quietly over the islands (PE mats) so as not to wake the wild things.  I was also impressed with the children’s ability to get changed by themselves – as far as I know everyone went home in the correct clothes!! Thank you for labelling the uniform – it made it so much easier!
Next week, we are learning about Chinese New Year.  We will be learning about the Chinese New Year story and how it is celebrated.  We’ll be making some spring rolls as well!  Have you ever seen Chinese ribbon dancing?  It is beautiful and there are lots of examples on youtube….we will be making our own ribbons to dance with.
Well done to everybody who practised and signed the reading records at least 3 times this week.  I heard every child read today…and quite frankly I was over the moon!  Your children are loving reading and feeling so confident, so thank you for making this possible.
I will put another Wow certificate, reading book, phonics note and high frequency word sticker into your child’s bag.  Amazingly, lots of the children are ASKING for more homework, and I feel I would be crazy to turn this down…so I am also including a number worksheet and a creative activity suggestion for anybody who wants to do more at home.

Kind Regards,
Mrs Divall
Ps. I was very happy to see so many comments on the page last week…thank you so much!
