We're going on a bear hunt......

Mrs Divall - 29 Jan 2015

Hello!
We have been busy learning from the core text 'we're going on a bear hunt' this week.!

I am very proud of all of your children...they are really enthusiastic about their learning....especially their writing activities!
This week, one of the writing activities was to write a simple clue(s) so that the reader could guess what was inside the cave (it didnt have to be a bear- lots of the children had some fabulously creative ideas!).  I was really impressed at their ever improving independence in hearing the next sound in words.  I hope your chidlren are showing interest in writing at home.  It can be really fun making a dinner menu or even a tiny diary of fun things that have happened each week. To encourage your children to write independently, help them to hear the sounds in words, not the letter names!  Also, sometimes longer words are spelt incorrectly - but we are hoping for children to make phonetically plauisible attempts so please do praise your child for writing and having a 'can-do' attitude (e.g. 'because' may look like 'bcoz')

Next week we are learning from the core text 'where the wild things are.'  Unfortunately I do not have any spare copies of this text to lend out to you, but if you are interested and would like to have a look at it please pop in one night after school.  It's a very good book to teach from - but I know it can be slightly trickier to get hold of because it's an older text.

We have concentrated a lot on 3D shapes this week.  'Polly pyramid' 'coney cone-head' and 'cecil cylinder' have been some of your children's favourite characters.  Please have a look at home with your child and see if you can find any of these shapes as real life objects.

As always, I have included tricky words, phonics information and a new reading book for your child.

Please do date and sign your child's reading record every time you read...the more comments and intials you leave in the record, the more rewardsa nd prizes your child will have at school!

Have a great weekend...

Mrs Divall :)
