Year 3 weekly newsflash

Mrs Divall and Mrs Zaayman - 27 Jun 2018

This week in Year 3, we have been working hard at solving money problems and time problems.
Many of us have found the money problems fun but challenging!  We have been required to add up items, and then find the change from a £5 or £10 note.  As these questions have involved two, or even three steps, we have had lots of discussion about what the question is asking us and which operation to choose to solve each step of the problem.  You can practise this at home.

We have also been busy working out how to work out the duration of TV programmes.  We invented our own TV channel and then worked hard to answer questions, (e.g. how long was Tom and Jerry?) by using just the times on the TV guide:

11.35am SpongeBob
11.55am Alvin and the Chipmunks
12.25pm Tom and Jerry
12.55pm The News

In literacy we have been writing biographies.  So far, we have done one of a friend or family member, and Goldilocks.  We are building up towards writing a very special autobiography to bring home.  We ask that each child bring in on photo for the front cover and one additional photo for their autobiography.  We also ask that you provide them with vital information, e.g. how much they weighed when they were born, how tall they are now, how much they weigh etc. You could give them ideas about special events in their lives which they could include.  This information must be brought in on Monday please.

In maths next week, we will be investigating practically.  Each child is invited to bring in ONE CONTAINER (anything they choose…large or small..eg a bottle, ice cream tub, bucket) and one object, large or small, to be weighed.  The object and container must be brought in on Monday and will need to stay at school for the week.

Kind Regards,

Mrs Divall and Mrs Zaayman
