aspiRe - R is for Respect

11 Nov 2014

Each year in November, the United Kingdom remembers the men and women who gave their lives in the two World Wars and subsequent conflicts. 11 November is known as Armistice Day, Remembrance Day or Poppy Day. This year takes on added significance as it is the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War

Today I had the privilege of being involved with the Brady school act of remembrance.  Remembering and respecting other views, opinions and actions are vital for us all to grow together as a community.  I have been struck by the capacity of adults and pupils alike at Brady to demonstrate extraordinary respect for each other and the value of reflecting back and learning from the past.  This is not only evident in the unveiling of Mr Bradburys reflective garden, but also within lessons with pupils constantly aspiring to higher levels of achievement by learning from mistakes.

Turn your thoughts on this occasion
To those who fought and died in the war
Years have passed and time has forgotten
But we will remember the soldiers once more

I ask you to stand with me for both the injured & those lost, I ask you to keep count with me of all the wars & what they've cost, I ask you to be silent with me quietly grateful for the health & life we got, I ask you to pray with me for those still risking their all, I ask you to stand with me proud of the fallen, I ask you to be proud of our great nation so to enjoy it's freedom, I hope that we'll soon bring an end to all war's, so you'll have to stand no more with me.
