First Week Back

07 Sep 2018

Hi everyone, I hope you all had a fantastic break over the summer. Year 5 have been working hard already this week in all areas of the curriculum.

In Literacy the children wrote descriptively about a 'secret door' and what they would find behind it. They have also been learning about relative clauses and how to use these in a sentence.

In Maths, the children have been working at place value. The children have worked hard to read numbers with up to 6 digits, and identify each digit within these numbers. If you have a chance, practise reading numbers like this with children at home so it becomes more familiar with them.

Our first topic this year is Pharaohs. The children have already showed great interest in the Ancient Egyptians and we have looked at Howard Carter and what was found inside Tutankhamun's tomb.

Please note that spellings were sent home with your child today on a look, cover, write, check sheet and they will be tested the following Friday. Please ensure your child is reading for at least 15-20 minutes each night, and check their comprehension when reading.
