Week 3

22 Jun 2018

This week, Year 5 have been very excited as some of them have been learning how to ride their bikes on the road with Bike Ability. They have really enjoyed being outside in the sunshine this week. The people that run Bike Ability made a point of explaining to me how well behaved and sensible the Year 5 children who took part were on the road. Well done again Year 5 for being fantastic ambassadors for our school.

In Maths this week, we have been revisiting fractions. We have been comparing and ordering fractions, using equivalent fractions to ensure denominators are all the same first. We then applied this understanding to adding and subtracting fractions. Children were able to add and subtract fractions with denominators that have the same multiples, as well as adding mixed numbers together.

The children researched about Russia this week, and created a persuasive leaftlet to draw people in for the World Cup. Children have also being reading fiction and non fiction texts about the World cup in Guided Reading. As we were feeling optomistic on Monday, we researched some well known England football songs and then produced our own rap. Clearly the hard work had an influence on the England players on Monday evening!

We have been learning about pulleys this week, as part of our topic Scream Machine. The children are now going to use their Design and Technology skills to create a prototype for a drop ride, based on Detenator at Thorpe Park, using a pulley system. Please if you have any spare boxes/kitchen rolls etc, send them in with your child on Monday to help with this.
