Beware, the Jabberwock, my son!
04 May 2018
This week in Year 5, we have started a new poetry unit and have been looking at narrative poetry. The class have read the poem 'Jabberwocky' and learned new terms such as portmanteau. They have used what they have been reading to create an imitation poem, using the same structure and punctuation as 'Jabberwocky' to write their own short narrative poetry, including portmanteau.
In Maths, we have been revisiting formal methods for division and multiplication. The children succeeded in this and were able to apply their learning to solve problems. At the end of the week we looked at squared and cubed numbers, again using our knowledge to solve problems.
In Science, the children have begun looking at how plants reproduce and naming the different parts of a plant.
Please note that this week, P.E. has been swapped to this Friday due to the polling day yesterday. As a result, the spelling test, arithmetic test and times table test will be sat on Tuesday instead. The children will also receive their new spellings then too.
I hope you all have a brilliant bank holiday weekend and for Star War fans, May the 4th be with you.
Miss West :)
