Autumn 2 in Year 5

09 Nov 2018

It has only been two weeks back but Year 5 have already showed great enthusiasm for their new topic, Stargazers!

Last week, we went on our trip to Southend Planetarium. The children learned lots about the planets and the star constellations. I was very proud of the class as their behaviour was brilliant. Even when stuck in a bit of traffic, the children were happy and singing their favourite songs!

This week we have looked at the planets in our solar system, and created posters to order and show facts about them. We also learned what it was like to live as an astronaut living on the International Space Station, and used this information to write a diary in role.

In maths, we have focussed on formal methods all week. Firstly we looked at a formal method for short division and multiplication. We have also begun to learn how to use the long method for multiplication. Please keep practising times tables as a secure knowledge of these are crucial when learning formal methods for multiplication and division!
Have a lovely weekend :)
