Year 5 visit Rainham Hall

18 May 2018

This week in Year 5, we took a stroll down to Rainham Hall. We visited the wonderful gardens there and enjoyed looking at all of the different types of flowers and vibrant colours. We also saw the allotment there, which was beginning to grow many different types of vegetables. The children took down sketch books and practised their observational drawings as part of their Art objectives. They were all sensible and well behaved in the gardens.

In Literacy this week, we have continued with narrative poetry. The children wrote their own narrative poems about a bee's journey around an allotment. They worked extremely hard to use a range of poetic devices such as figurative language and using syllables to ensure the poem has a good rhythm.

In Maths, we have been recapping important key skills. These included formal methods for multiplication and division. The children have worked well to use these formal methods, and also be able to solve more challenging problems.

Please note that our class trip to Barking Gurdwara is to take place next Wednesday (23rd May). I am still awaiting five reply slips for this trip. If a reply slip is not provided, then your child will be required to stay behind at school. All children have enjoyed learning about the Sikh faith this half term, and it would be a shame for them to miss this experience.
