Year 3 Week 1
03 May 2019
Literacy
In Literacy we have been reading ‘The Firework Maker’s Daughter’. The children have been enjoying learning about the characters, especially our main characters Lila and Lalchand. We gathered various interesting adjectives that described Lila and Lalchand’s appearance and personality. After this, we created character descriptions using these interesting words and they were a great read. Next week we will be working towards writing a diary entry about Lila’s perilous journey to Mount Merapi.
Maths
In Maths we have been focusing on angles. We started by recapping what a right angle is then began to look at whether other angles were bigger, small or equal to a right angle. The children found using the mathematical language difficult to begin with but soon learned the names of the angles, acute and obtuse. Next week we will be focusing on horizontal and vertical lines and pairs of perpendicular and parallel lines.
Topic
The children have really enjoyed our fun and interesting start to our new topic ‘Tremors’. At the beginning of the week, Year 3 learned about the layers of the Earth by peeling an egg and making clay models! We also began to look at different rocks and classified them into various groups. Next week we will continue to learn about how rocks are formed and volcanoes.
