Year 3 Week 1
28 Feb 2019
Welcome back!
Literacy
Year 3 have been looking at poetry written by Valerie Bloom which is intended to be read in the Jamaican dialect of Patois. The children have found this really fun and have been enthusiastic towards taking part. They have been practising their poems in groups and will add musical instruments and soundscapes to their performance, ready to show the class.
Maths
This week we have been focusing on fractions. The children have been recognising unit and non-unit fractions and have gained a good understanding of this. Next week, the children will be continuing to focus on fractions, although, they will be finding fractions of amounts.
Topic
Our topic this half term is Tribal Tales. We will be finding out about what life was like during the Stone Age and the Bronze Age. The children have already been very inquisitive during our first few sessions. This week, we have looked at how long ago the Stone Age began and placed this onto a timeline. We also began to look at cave art and created some of our own. In science we discussed the life cycle of a flowering plant and what seed dispersal is.
