Year 3 Week 4

Literacy

This week the children have continued to plan their dilemma stories. At the beginning of the week they wrote some brilliant setting descriptions and tried hard to include: subordinate clauses; a variety of interesting sentence openers; adverbs; adjectives and ambitious vocabulary. I really enjoyed listening to these and can’t wait to read their ‘hot write’. Next week will be a very busy week, starting with assessments then finishing the week with multicultural day!

Maths

The children have been practising formalised methods for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division this week. They used these skills to answer word problems which they are gaining a good understanding of as it can be difficult for the children to identify which operation should be used for each question.

Topic

Year 3 really enjoyed learning about the fascinating carnivorous plants this week. Then they designed their own carnivorous plant considering how it would trapped its prey. In Science they made a prediction on how water is transported within plants then they placed celery into a mixture of water and food dye. After a few days, the children will cut these open and investigate this concept.
