People Who Help Us.
30 Nov 2017
This week, as part of our Topic work we have been learning about people who help us, during the day and when we are asleep. We have been role-playing as nurses, doctors, firemen, police and teachers! We have been using different types of construction to make their places of work e.g. hospitals, schools, fire stations. It's so amazing to see children's writing beginning to flourish as they are now blending and segmenting words. They are getting used to identifying the intial sounds in written words to help them understand what it says in relation to the image. Some children wrote captions like "the vet". "ambulance". "nurse helps".
In phonics we have learnt 3 sounds.
l- down the long leg.
h- down the horse to his hooves, up and over his back.
sh- our first digraph! We pretended s and h got married so whenever they are seen together they have a special sound!
In maths we have been working on our 2D shapes. We have been on shape hunts and relating shapes to the world around us. To continue learning about shapes at home, encourage children to describe the properties of shapes just as we have been at school as a guess my shape game. (My shape has 3 equal sides/ my shape has 2 long and 2 short sides etc.)
Please don't forget that children's nativity costumes need to be in to me by Monday 4th Dec, clearly labelled in a plastic bag with their name.
