Year 5 are poets
16 Nov 2018
This week in Year 5, we have been writing some poetry! We looked at 'The Magic Box' by Kit Wright and the features of free verse poems.
This was linked to our topic of Space as children imagined what they would put in their own box if they were to create their very own universe. They worked hard to use alliteration, figurative language and onomatopoeia. Below is an example of a fantastic poem, written by Aman.
I hope you have a lovely weekend.
I will put in the box
A beach's sand
Gleaming in the red hot Sun
Its breeze brushing over my face
I will put in the box
A puppy's fur
As soft as butter
Dropping to the fluffy, brown carpet
I will put in the box
A dragon's fire making its way through the castle walls
The breath of a Chinese dragon
The oceans of the antarctic
I will put in the box
A lion's roar flowing out of its throat
Its mane shimmering in the golden Sun
Fireworks roaring in pain
Bursting in the midnight sky
My box is fashioned from gold leather
And silk feathers laying on top
In the corners it's made from a galaxy far, far away
Its hinges are made from a spider's silk being weaved in the Sun
