Year 5 Scientists

02 Oct 2015

YEAR 5 NEWS LETTER

SCIENCE : In science we have been making sugar crystals  , the resources  we have used are jam jars , measuring jug ,water, sugar cubes, string, and sugar grains. First we collected our jars and poured 100 ml of hot water into our jam jar. Secondly, we put 12 sugar cubes in our jars and mixed them individually. Thirdly, we dipped a piece of string into the jar. Next we dunked the string into the sugar grains and left it on the side for a few minutes. Lastly we taped some of the string to the side of the jar and we will see if our solution worked.

ART: In art we have been sketching very detailed sarcophaguses since our topic is Ancient Egypt. Sarcophaguses everyone’s sarcophagus was very nice especially when we used a fine technique to colour it and paint it.

ENGLISH: In English we have been reading Michael Rosen poems, the poems we have read are Harrybo and Rodge Said . Harrybo was very sad because his grandad dies and Rodge Said was a  conversation between a teacher and Rodge.
MATHS: In maths we have been learning about decimals, we have been learning about how to order them from smallest to biggest.

TOPIC: In topic we have been making flow charts and information posters about the River Nile. The Egyptians would make boats out of papyrus, clothes out of linen and lots more.
