Super seeds stories and estimating skills.
23 Apr 2017
This week seems to have really whizzed by. In literacy we have been writing stories and trying to include all the techniques we have worked on so far. Some great work ranging from Brandon's man-eating plant to William's Winnie the witch story using magic on her seed. I have seen a big improvement in spellings and more children joining their letters too.
In maths we are working hard at estimating an answer first before adding or subtracting. This is such a useful skill to ensure we do not write 'silly' answers!
In topic work we found out about the sort of work Victorian children did and just how hard and dangerous these jobs were for the children. These include working in mines, bird scarers, chimney sweeps, maids and factory jobs, even sweeping up horse manure in the streets! Now if they moan about school just remind them how lucky they are to be able to go to school. Next week we will start our new topic about the seaside.
In Art we looked at the work of Henri Rousseau and created our own tropical scene. Great work from Jessica, Logan and Ryan.
