British values and voting
08 Oct 2016
Thank you to all those parents who were able to come to the maths workshop on Monday. I hope it was useful.
In literacy we have been writing instructions. The children have been using adventurous vocabulary and produced some excellent work. In science we explored the garden for micro-habitats and because it was a sunny day we saw a real range of creatures, particularly spiders.
In RE we made our own prayers on scrolls about the things we love in our world.
In topic we found out about Mary Seacole.
On Friday we had a debate with year 6.The question was -Should sport be competitive?
The children listened to Michael, Dillon,Elizabeth and Kiera and then asked questions or expressed their view. Then everyone voted on a ballot paper and posted them in the ballot box. This reflects the British electoral system providing a great opportunity for the children to express their opinion but also to listen respectfully to their peers. The votes were counted and 39 children voted for competitive sports which was a majority.
Class dojo winners were Kiera,Fletcher and Aashna. Well done. There is a good website for Mary Seacole with games which we tried in class. Just type in Mary Seacole and it is a BBC famous people website. Have fun.
