Where does Santa go holiday?

Mrs Divall - 06 Jan 2017

Happy New Year and welcome back to school.  Although we've only been back 3 days, we've been very busy.

We've been thinking about what Santa might do after Christmas.  He sent us a postcard, saying he'd gone on holiday somewhere hot.  We saw a picture of him in a swimming pool in his Santa swimming shorts!  This made alot of us laugh!!
We've written back to Santa.  The children are beginning to be able to write simple sentences.  We say the sentence aloud, then we count the words, we say the first word.  We count the sounds in the word.  Then we write them down.  Then we repeat the sentence to identify the next word.  We are learning to put finger spaces between each word.  You can practise this format at home.

In our number work we have been identifying the missing number in numberlines and also ordering numbers.

We've also been learning lots about Penguins (this was the children's choice).  We have focussed on Emperor Penguins.  We have drawn penguins, written simple sentences about them and learnt about how they look after their chicks.  You will be impressed to know that the children beat the teachers 8-2 in the Emperor Penguin quiz!
