Sum 2 Week 1in Reception ... "Arghhh.....The Pirates next door"

Mr Hetchin - 09 Jun 2017

Welcome back and I hope you and your families have all had a fantastic, fun and safe half term. This week we have changed to a more structured timetable in preperation for the move to Year 1. The children have coped wonderfuly with sitting at tables and all the staff have been really impressed.

Our new topic this half term is "Pirates, Princesses and Superheroes". The first text we have explored is "The Pirates Next Door" by Jonny Duddle. The story is about a family who move into the neighbourhood and are made to feel very unwelcome by their new neighbours. As part of the topic we have discussed who we would like moving next door to us, discussed how our homes may differ and created our own speech bubbles for the characthers in the book.

As part of our carousel, where children participate in a round robin of activities, the children have had the opportunity to write their own sentences about their homes, practised using sensible colours to decorate and made our own pirates by cutting out their own body parts.

In maths we have been practising addition using a number line and written our own number sentences using the correct symbols.

The children have had a great week in P.E. and coped wonderfully with all getting changed together in the hall. The children practised moving in different ways across the mat, spinning and balancing the hoop, skipping and using a bat and ball.

Next week we will be looking again at pirates and learning about subtraction.

Have a fantastic weekend.

Mr Hetchin and the foundation stage team. smiley
